Going to Hawaii!!!!!!!!!!!

Gary called me from work yesterday and said, guess what? we're going to Hawaii!!!! It is a free trip and not one I would pass up for anything. I have always wanted to go to Hawaii. I don't have a whole lot of time to prepare, and by prepare I mean LOSE WEIGHT! I am getting right on it though. :) We leave November 6th and our return flight is on the 11th but we won't actually get home until the 12th. That is the only thing I am not looking forward to. The long time in the planes. I can't sleep on planes. And what do they mean when they say the dress for the dinners is "resort casual". ?? I am not a dress person and do not even own a sundress or a summer skirt. sigh. This is where we will be staying: www.fairmont.com/orchid

The Heretic's Daughter

This was a really good book. The author, Kathleen Kent is a direct descendant of Martha Carrier who was accused of witchcraft and sentenced to be hung. This story is told by her daughter, Sarah Carrier. Set in 1752 it tells the tale of the Salem witch trials in a different light.

Red is for Remembrance

This is the final book in this series and the best. Stacey got a full scholarship to prestigious Beacon University, she hasn't got over the tragedy from the book before this one, and refuses to give up hope. She starts having more nightmares and somehow they are linked to the college president's daughter. Together they work to figure the mystery out and in the end, Stacey has a shocking revelation that could change her life forever...

Dead In Dixie

This is the book that the new HBO series True Blood is based on. Actually this is three books in one, Dead in Dixie, Living Dead in Dallas and Club Dead. There are at least four more that go with this series. Vampires have "come out of the closet" so to speak and are living among normal people as the Chinese have invented a synthetic blood for them to drink. Sookie Stackhouse is a cocktail waitress with her own sort of disability, she can read minds. She meets Bill, tall dark and handsome, and the best part? She can't hear a word he is thinking. But Bill is a vampire with a seriously creepy crowd of friends, and when one of her co-workers is killed, Sookie fears she is next. This book was excellent and I will be getting the ones that were written after.
Wow it has been a while since I have written anything on here. Probably because nothing really interesting has happened. We took Brooke to UNH last Wednesday for a tour. She liked it a lot, and Gary and I were impressed with it too, it would be nice if she could get in there but I know the nursing program is very competitive.
We had some trim painting done on the outside of the house and it came out really good, and now I want the inside painted but Gary is not into painting and it would cost a small fortune to have it done. poop.
Out hot water tank was leaking, and it had to be replaced, and they decided Friday morning while I was going to the bathroom would be a good time to show up without calling ahead of time and ring the doorbell. Of course, because Brooke was driving her own car to Maine and I had a chance to leave early. Well, that didn't happen since they were there until 1:30. And I had to run around and wash dishes and brush my teeth when they finally turned the water back on. Anyway, hopefully they did everything correctly because I took off right after and we haven't been home all weekend, I would hate to come home to a basement full of water.
We had a nice weekend here in Maine, actually I am still here because Brooke drove herself to school this morning and I can take my time going home. The weather has been great, sunny and seasonable temps, although yesterday was warmer than it has been . We are down to the final days here, we will come back next weekend and then the weekend after we go to the Fryeburg Fair (thanks Mom and Dad for letting us borrow your camper!) and then the weekend after that is the last weekend.
My Dad had his second laser treatment on his eye and we have fingers crossed and are praying that it works. (his blocked carotid artery is causing issues with his eye).
that's the update, nothing exciting, but that is a good thing. I'll try to have some good pictures from the Fair when we go to post on here.

Silver is for Secrets

Forgot to add the picture to the post below :)

Silver is for Secrets

This is the third book in this series and much better than the second one. It has a pretty shocking ending and really makes you want to read the next one. This one takes place at the beach, the summer before the main cast of characters in all these books are set to go to college. Stacey is having nightmares again, about a girl Clara who is staying at a cottage near them, only her dreams don't warn her of everything this time......

Labor Day Weekend

This is is, Labor Day, and summer is over. sort of. My sister Shelley came to Maine for the weekend and we had a great time. We went to the Marginal Way and walked both ways. Yesterday we had a cook out here on our row, and they cooked turkeys in the fryers. The smell that was coming through the windows was so good. I made two desserts for the cookout, a dirt trifle and a pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese frosting. When Gary got home from work we went down to Short Sands on the trolley and poked around all the shops. Shelley just left a little while ago, Brooke is working and Gary is working. Gary actually had to work all weekend, that was a bummer. It is so nice here in Maine at this time of year, I wish we could stay for a couple of weeks in September.

Labor Day Weekend

Hold Tight

How well do you really know your child?
Tia and Mike Baye never imagined they'd spy on their kids. But their sixteen-year old son Adam has been unusually distant lately, and after the suicide of his best friend Spencer Hill, they can't help but worry.
So these parents installed a spy program on his computer and discovered a sinister sounding message. This book seemed disjointed at first, and you wondered how everything was connected, but it definitely all was connected in surprising ways. Good fast read.
